BMW's M division has spent 2022 celebrating its 50th birthday with special cars such as the 3.0 CSL and the long-awaited M3 Touring. As the festive year draws to a close, the company is not taking a break and the leak has allegedly revealed key details about the M3 CS.
The next evolution of the current generation M3 will start production in March 2023, according to documents discovered by enthusiast forum Bimmerpost. Perched atop the M3, the CS will provide enthusiasts with a 543-horsepower development from the car's standard, twin-turbocharged, 3.0-liter engine and will come standard with BMW's xDrive all-wheel drive system. One interesting point still up in the air is transmission: the leaked documents give a great deal of technical detail but list a question mark in the field of transmission.
By comparison, the twin-turbo inline-six develops 473 hp in the base M3 (pictured); It spins the rear wheels and is available with a six-speed manual transmission. Power grows to 503 horsepower on the Competition automatic only, which is offered with either rear- or all-wheel drive.
While the leaked documents seem legit, nothing is firm at this point and BMW hasn't released official details about the M3 CS. An unverified report claims the CS will be automatic and all-wheel drive only, though the M4 CSL looks like it's rear-wheel drive. Another interesting point still up in the air is how much the M3 CS weighs. The aforementioned CSL weighs about 240 pounds less than the regular production M4 but consider the L: It's a lightweight model. BMW may choose not to put the M3 on such a crash diet.
We expect BMW to reveal the super sedan in the coming weeks, most likely with a six-figure price tag, and possibly a very limited production one.
